The Tangent has done it again on thei 2022 album release. They’ve created yet another memorable album, this time with three mostly instrumental long suites (17 to 20+ minutes) that show an interesting fuse between Canterbury, rock (sometimes even metal), latin, oriental and electronic elements. The music still sounds coherent, interesting and catchy. Great musicianship all over.
Track 1 is groovy, jazzy, soft yet powerful with great guitar throughout. Track 2 has interesting latin rythms and amazing bass playing by Jonas. There’s free jazz in the middle and it ends with the latin canterburian groove, mixed with oriental tunes and even a flamenco interlude. Track 3 is a crecendo, starting very subtle and gaining energy, emotion and variation until reaching an impressive peak of creativity with a bliss ending. Track 4 is.. well, track 4, a fun foot tapper. The bonus tracks is a great cover version of a song by the band UK with some experimentation.
